Last weekend, 3 and 4 November 2012, we had a weekend’s flying to start off the cross-country season.
Saturday 3rd, all the club single seaters were filled and the usual suspects went out to do a short task – Waikerie Wunkar Kingston Waikerie, as a 1.5 hour AAT task. Climbs went to about 6000 feet, and Greg and Pete P came back with averages over 80 km/hr. Bill Mudge was in the Discus and came back too soon to get a high score, but kept flying after finishing, and got the best thermal of the day, 8 knots to 8,500 feet. Stu and Alan did some local flying in the K21.
Sunday looked like being hotter and better. A longer task was set: The Gums, Copeville, Wanbi etc. However the strong north-westerly made climbs difficult: the K21 intended to go x-c but ended up staying local. I don’t know how the singles ended up, maybe some of them will tell us stories.
