On Thursday 25th September, Waikerie Gliding Club again participated in the Riverland High School Sports Expo, where students from various Riverland high schools are provided the opportunity to participate in a sport they would not normally do.
Eleven students visited the Waikerie Gliding Club: Matthew Chapple (Berri), Kloey Thiele (Lyrup), Bradley McKay (Waikerie), Josh Lindo (Waikerie), Billie-Jo Trewin (Renmark), Scott Anderson (Renmark), Corey Kassulke (Glossop), Caleb Francis (Renmark), Chloe Searies (Loxton), Claire Thompson (Berri), Elly Gregoric (Loxton).
And after a welcome and safety briefing, were invited to fly in either an AS K21 or Twin Astir, flown on this occasion by Mark Morgan and Bill Mudge, with Phill Hollick co-ordinating ground operations. Most of the students used the opportunity to get “hands on” and fly the glider, with some seeking the thrill of aerobatics. After the flights were completed, discussion was held about various aspects of gliding, including the instructional process, competition flying and the weather before the students departed by bus back to their various schools.
